BIBLE STUDY SESSION 106
|

| RESPOND Form a large circle. As the teacher, begin this exercise by taking the melon in your hands and saying “Sometimes I’m tempted to worship _________ instead of God.” Pass the melon around the group. Students may pass, but encourage them to finish the sentence if possible. INSIGHTS FROM THE SCRIPTURE This story takes place after the division of the kingdom. Israel is its own country in the north, and Amos is a writing prophet who foretells the fall of the country of Israel because of its sins. The line “Go to Betheland transgress” is very significant. Bethel is a place of worship for the people of Israel. It had a distinguished past and was the worship location for the royal family. It was called “the king’s sanctuary.” For Amos to stand up in a crowd of people and tell them to “Come to Bethel and rebel against God”that was huge. The Israelites heard what they thought to be absolute hypocrisybut they were the ones who were being hypocrites. Download this Session's Reproducible Exercise PDF - "False Worship" |
