“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and hid; and for joy over it he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.” Matthew 13:44

FAITH FOCUS
After sending the multitude away, Jesus now illustrates what the kingdom of heaven is like through the parable of the hidden treasure. In this parable, the treasure represents the joy of being a Christian, and the man represents those who are willing to give up all in order to receive that joy.

SESSION GOAL
To help each person to see the value of his or her faith, and to risk giving up wealth and power to obtain this great gift.

SESSION OBJECTIVES
Each youth will:
  • Hunt for hidden treasure and then discuss the lives of Paul and some contemporary Christians.
  • Look up Bible verses and define the phrases “kingdom of God,” “treasure,” and “joy.”
  • Watch a video and discuss what the cost of following Jesus really means.
