| Esau Man from Gerar King Abimelech SCENE ONE: (Genesis 25:19-26) Ike: Well for starters, I was 40 when I got married. Becky: I married an old man! Ike: But you were worth waiting for, honey! Becky: Whatever you say, Ike. Ike: I loved you so much! But I was real disappointed when you didn’t start having babies right away. Becky: So was I! Ike: So I started praying to God that she’d get pregnant, and she did! Becky: That made me happy--until I got sick. I was so sick and tired during that pregnancy, I was ready to die. Then God told me I was carrying twins and that this was just the beginning of their struggles with each other. Ike: Twin boys! Ah, the first one came out strong, screaming, with hair on his body. A real man! We named him Esau--the word sounds a little bit like “hair” in Hebrew. Becky: The other twin was holding onto his brother’s heal, so we named him Jacob because that means “heel.” He’s my special boy. Ike: Huh! He’s a wus! Esau and I go hunting together but Jake won‘t ever come along. He stays home and cooks with Becky. Becky: I like having a son who cooks with me! Maybe if you weren’t so mean to him, he’d want to spend time with you! Ike: Ha! Me? Mean? That sneaky son of yours is the mean one. Continued... |
