WHO IS YOUR FRIEND—YOUR REAL FRIEND?
YOUTH GROUP LESSON 6
SESSION OUTLINE
FOCUS:
Pass around the pictures of the teeter totter. Ask students what makes a teeter totter work. The answer you are looking for is that one person has to be down in order for the other person to be up. Then ask students if they know what this might have to do with friendship. Don’t tell students what the answer is—they will be discovering it as they view the video clips.

CONNECT WITH A MOVIE:
View Clip 1: (5:30-15:22)
Introduce the clip by asking students to look carefully for the difference in the quality of the friendships presented.
After the clip, ask for observations. This can be fairly open-ended at first, but should eventually lead to a discussion about what friendship should be based on. What is the friendship with the “Plastics” based on? What is Cady’s friendship with Janice and Damien based on?

View Clip 2: (26:59-29:30)
The discussion of clip number one should suffice as an introduction for the second clip—but if you desire a separate introduction, you could ask the students to look for betrayal (it is fairly obvious and will be presented in the third clip as well).
Following the clip, ask what happened. How did Regina betray Cady? Why did she do this? What does this reveal about their friendship?
