"IMPOSSIBLE? GET GOD INVOLVED" by Carol Duerksen
YOUTH GROUP LESSON 9
This session incorporates several spiritual disciplines to help youth involve the power of God as they seek to love those who are hard to like.

MATERIALS AND ADVANCE PREPARATION:
1 Arrange your room so it is conducive to worship and quiet thinking during the Apply part of the session. You might build a worship center with a Bible and candle, or dim the lights and have several candles throughout the room. Play soft Christian music in the background.
2 A bowl of trail mix or party mix. Mix your own or purchase it, but make sure there are at least five different elements in the mix. Example: candy such as M & M‘s, cereal such as Cheerios or Golden Grahams, peanuts (be aware of peanut allergies!), raisins, dried fruit.
Assign each element in the mix to something the students should recall—see example below. Prior to class, write this on the chalk board or dry erase board so students can see it:
• Candy—Really great! • Raisin—Less-than-wonderful • Cheerios—Person who makes me happy. • Dried fruit—Person you don’t like. • Peanuts—Laughter
3 Small Dixie cups—one for each student.
4 Bibles for every student
5 Cards or slips of paper with the instructions for the Connect with God section on them—one per student.
6 Oil for anointing

FOCUS:
Welcome youth, and begin the session with this prayer: God, we are going to talk about doing something virtually impossible today. Be with us. Teach us. Show us how it can be done.
And all God’s children said Amen!
Give each student a cup of snack mix but tell them not to start eating until they get further instructions. When everyone has their snack, explain:
