"FIND JESUS IN THE MOVIES" by Carol Duerksen
YOUTH GROUP LESSON 21
MATERIALS AND ADVANCE PREPARATION:
1 Prior to this session, ask class members to locate, view, and bring to class a movie with a theme of social justice. If possible, they should be prepared to show a short segment of the movie that illustrates social justice, or the lack thereof. Some possibilities: Radio, A Time to Kill, Crash, Mississippi Burning, Cry Freedom, I Am Sam, the Vernon Johns story. This is just a short list—there are many films that would qualify under this theme
2 Write the questions listed at the end of this session on a chalkboard or newsprint for everyone to see
3 Equipment to view DVD’s and/or VHS tapes, depending on what your students bring

SESSION OUTLINE
FOCUS:

Welcome students and ask them to stand up and be prepared to move based on their response to your statements. Designate one side of the room for them to go to if they agree with the statement, and the other side if they disagree. After each statement, ask students why they agreed or disagreed with the statement.

Statements:
1 If Jesus was on earth today, he would be making movies.
2 If Jesus was on earth today, he would be living with homeless people.
3 If Jesus was on earth today, he would be living in a mansion.
4 If Jesus was on earth today, he would be living with a Palestinian family on the West Bank of Israel.
5 If Jesus was on earth today, he would be a very popular preacher.
