"Let’s Talk Church, Part I: An Intergenerational Experience" by Carol Duerksen
YOUTH GROUP LESSON 25
MATERIALS AND ADVANCE PREPARATION:
1 Locate actors for the skit and clothes for them. The teenager should be wearing “old person” clothes, including hat, shoes, dress or suit. The adult should be wearing contemporary teenage clothes. Have fun with this—get a teenager to help “dress” the adult appropriately.
2 Props for skit: Ipod, cell phone, laptop
3 Someone to call the cell phone
4 Plan for a block of time when you can get youth and adults from your congregation together to do this experience. Invite them!
5 Newsprint and markers
6 Activity stations and instructions at each station:
• Drama—this group will need a room to plan and practice a drama. Post these instructions: Create a drama that illustrates the statement on your paper. How can you portray that statement?
• Music—this group will need a place to plan and practice music. Post these instructions: Find or create a piece of music that illustrates the statement on your paper. How can you communicate that through music?
• Discussion—this group will need a place to sit and talk. Post these instructions: Talk about the statement on your paper. What does that mean? How is it manifested in a worship service?
• Art—this group will need a table and chairs and supplies to draw and/or paint. Post these instructions: Illustrate what the statement on your paper means for you.
• Writing—this group will need a table, paper and pens. Post these instructions: Reflect and write on the statement.
7 Pieces of paper, one per person, with these words on them: “When it comes to worship, it’s not about you. It’s all about God.”
