| MATERIALS AND ADVANCE PREPARATION: 1 Assemble the ingredients and supplies to make chocolate chip cookiesenough for your group. 2 You will need an oven and baking pans to bake the cookies during the session. 3 Copies of the recipe you are usingone for each small group. 4 Newsprint and markers 5 Milk and/or another beverage to go with the cookies 6 If you have people who don’t like or can’t eat cookies, provide an alternative for them to eat while the others eat the cookies. SESSION OUTLINE FOCUS: Ask students to take a minute to decide if they are more like a sheep or a goat, and why. When they know what they are, go around the room and ask them to share. Then divide the group in two partssheep on one side of the room, goats on the other. CONNECT TO THE BIBLE STORY: Welcome participants to the meeting, and say that the goal for the time together is to make and enjoy “church cookies” together. 2 Divide into small groups and give each group a copy of the recipe. 3 Give these instructions to the groups: In your group, discuss the elements that are important in a church family, and assign those elements to the ingredients on your card in the proportion of their importance. For example: Flour is the largest ingredient in the recipe. What is the largest element you think a church needs? (Excluding peoplewe will assume you have people.) Salt and baking soda are small ingredients but very important. What are small but essential elements to a church community? And so on for all ingredients.
