"A UNIQUE WORSHIP SERVICE" by Leona Mullett and Carol Duerksen
YOUTH GROUP LESSON 34
This worship service is different from the traditional Mennonite Sunday morning service. The church service will be held in the fellowship hall with everyone sitting around round tables. The purpose is to try to create a setting that hearkens back to the early church, when believers met in homes and were “on fire for the Lord.”

MATERIALS AND ADVANCE PREPARATION:

1 A fellowship area is set with round tables, chairs, and there are lit candles on each table.
2 Prelude music—acoustic guitar
3 Choose songs and make arrangements for accompanists and/or a worship band
4 Ask someone to present the opening scripture passage dramatically.
5 Arrange for someone to respond to the scripture
6 Arrange for two persons to do the Repentance Drama
7 A wooden cross, nails and several hammers
8 Music to be played during the nailing of sins to the cross, communion and foot-washing.
9 Bread and juice for communion at each table.
10 Foot washing stations set up around the outer edges of the room. The water is scented with good-smelling oils to signify how people during the early church times used perfumes when they washed someone’s feet.
11 Meditation prepared by pastor
