YOUTH GROUP LESSON 45

| MATERIALS AND ADVANCE PREPARATION: 1 Choose several youth of both sexes to help you choose the movies you will be watching at the lock-in. They should be on the theme of sex and dating and appropriate for your students to view. 2 Schedule the lock-in at someone’s home if possible. Movie industry regulations don’t allow you to show a video to a group of people in a public place without paying for a contract to do so. 3 Preview the movies yourself and make a list of questions that you want the youth to answer for each movie. (See suggestions below.) 4 Plan food for the lock-in. 5 You may need to do some Biblical research for question # 4. THE LOCK-IN: Organize this event based on your group, the time-frame you have, and what you want to cover. In its simplest format, it would consist of viewing a movie and leading a discussion after each movie. Variations could include: 1 Dividing into guys and girls groups for them to discuss their different perspectives. 2 Looking at clips that you have selected from the movie that are particularly revealing in terms of sex and dating. 3 Incorporating one or more of the elements from other sessions on sex and dating as part of the lock-in, such as the ice cream sundae skit or some of the dramas. In fact, you could put together an entire weekend. If you would like help in doing that, or someone to come lead a weekend retreat on sex and dating, contact Carol Duerksen at carold@mennoniteusa.org. Continued... |
