| KEY VERSE: Acts 4:19-20 But Peter and John answered them, “Whether it is right in God’s sight to listen to you rather than to God, you must judge; for we cannot keep from speaking about what we have seen and heard.” FAITH STORY: Acts 4:1-22 FAITH FOCUS: In this story the priests, the captain of the temple, and the Sadducees realized that Peter and John were proclaiming the Word to the people in the street. The members of the council arrested them and put them in custody until the next day. About 5000 of the people who heard the word believed. Peter and John stood in front of the council and, when questioned, they didn’t back down from what they believed in. The council saw their boldness and that they were ordinary men, and realized they were friends of Jesus. The council didn’t know what to do, so they threatened Peter and John and restricted them from speaking in the name of Jesus. But Peter and John asked if the right thing to do was take advice from the authorities rather than obeying and following God. They knew that they could not keep from opening their mouths and sharing what they had seen God do. SESSION GOAL: To help students understand that God’s Word cannot be kept inside and silent but has to be shared with all people, even if it means disobeying the authorities (civil disobedience).
