| MATERIALS AND ADVANCE PREPARATION • Plan to watch the movie “The Martian Child” as a class. This should take place in a home, not a public place like a church because it is illegal unless you have a license to do so. • Index cards and pens SESSION OUTLINE FOCUS Pass out the cards and pens and ask students to write down their definition of “family,” and to put their name on the card. Then collect the cards and read the answers, but don’t say who wrote what. WATCH THE MOVIE Watch “The Martian Child.” APPLY Hand cards back to students. Ask them to turn it over and write another definition of family. Did it change after seeing the movie? Discuss the new answers as well as the first answers. RESPOND Encourage students to let their families know that they appreciate them. Ideas: a card, a “I love you” text, take them out for a meal, bake something, etc. |
